NYK of Japan has taken delivery of the LNG carrier ‘Elisa Aquila’ from shipbuilder Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries.
The 297m long, 118.753gt vessel will be commercially managed by NYK/Geogas LNG joint venture company, France LNG Shipping, under a long-term charter contract with Edison, a Milan-based energy company which is part of the EDF Group. This is the second vessel to be chartered to an EDF company on a long-term basis and will be engaged in LNG transportation under the ship management of Gazocean, a French ship management company jointly owned by NYK and Geogas LNG.
Elisa Aquila is propelled by WinGD-manufactured X-DF dual-fuel low-speed diesel engines and features an Air Liquide–manufactured Turbo-Brayton refrigeration system that can tap surplus boil-off gas. Manufactured by GTT, the 174,000-cubic meter capacity membrane-type tank is made of advanced insulating materials that reduce the vaporisation rate.
