GONDAN LAUNCHES ZERO-EMISSION READY CSOV

Mar 21, 2022 | Shipbuilding & ship repair news

The Gondan Shipyard in Figueras, Spain has launched a new Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (CSOV), which has been prepared for the future installation of zero-emission hydrogen technology.

Built for Norwegian shipowner Edda Wind, the vessel has a length of 88.3m and a beam of 19.7m, and was designed by Salt Ship Design. The preparations for future zero emission propulsion systems are made possible by funding from Enova SF, a Norwegian government enterprise responsible for promotion of environmentally friendly production and consumption of energy.

With accommodation for 120 people, comprising 93 technicians and 27 crew members, Edda Wind’s new CSOV will enable the commissioning and construction of the first two phases of the Dogger Bank wind farm in the North Sea – the world’s largest offshore wind platform, which will have an output capacity of 3,600 MW and will be located off the coast of Yorkshire, England. The vessel will carry modern automated equipment including a 3D Motion Compensated Crane, a motion compensated gangway with a maximum range of 28m for personnel transfer and an integrated elevator with capacity up to 26 persons.

Gondan says that the global situation generated as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic represented a challenge, which it managed to face through careful coordination and implementation of measures in accordance with Government regulations, to achieve fulfilment of its commitments.
