BAR Technologies has unveiled WindWings Hub, a new platform that the company says promises to transform how shipping companies track, understand and optimise the performance of wind-assisted vessels.
According to the company, verifying the impact of clean technologies at sea has been a difficult, time-consuming process. Shipowners and fleet managers often found themselves relying on manual reports or sporadic data snapshots to understand whether their sustainability investments are truly delivering. WindWings Hub helps bring real-time visibility into the everyday operation of vessels fitted with WindWings, offering data-driven insights into voyage efficiency, fuel savings, maintenance needs and much more, all in a clear, easy-to-navigate interface.
Andy Bryson, Head of Performance and Simulation, BAR Technologies, said: “WindWings Hub was created out of a real need. Internally, we had access to fantastic performance data, but there wasn’t a way to easily share those insights with our customers. Now, with the Hub, we can put that information directly into their hands, allowing them to see exactly how their WindWings are working and where there are opportunities to save even more.”
The launch of WindWings Hub is considered a major step forward by BAR Technologies for the maritime sector’s journey towards decarbonisation. Rather than viewing WindWings as a bolt-on solution, WindWings Hub integrates the system into the heart of ship operations, helping to drive better outcomes across technical, operational and corporate levels. Initial trials show that vessels equipped with WindWings and monitored through WindWings Hub have achieved fuel savings of up to 1.5t/day of fuel on average global shipping routes.
John Cooper, CEO BAR Technologies, said: “We believe data transparency is critical to the future of sustainable shipping. WindWings Hub doesn’t just report performance—it empowers fleets to chart a smarter course toward true net-zero operations.”
Developed with support from the UK Government’s Zero Emissions Vessels and Infrastructure (ZEVI) competition and delivered in partnership with Innovate UK, WindWings Hub is said to represent the kind of practical, scalable innovation needed to accelerate the shift to greener shipping.
