Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore (BV), has held three thematic workshops, focusing on integrated decarbonisation solutions, electrification, and LNG.
The integrated decarbonisation solutions, designed and hosted by BV, explored how technological, operational and regulatory measures can be integrated to accelerate progress toward zero- and near-zero-emission shipping. Structured around three breakout themes – Energy and Operational Efficiency, Regulatory Pathways and Emerging Technologies – the workshop facilitated in-depth dialogue on practical strategies to combine efficiency improvements, advanced propulsion systems and policy mechanisms into coherent, actionable solutions.
BV experts contributed to Electrification and LNG workshops, sharing technical perspectives on safe implementation, regulatory readiness and the role of classification in ensuring the reliability of emerging energy infrastructure and technologies. Across all sessions, the company reinforced the importance of collaboration among shipowners, ports, energy suppliers and regulators to align safety, innovation and environmental performance in the transition to clean shipping.
The workshops were part of the Dalian Shipping Conference, hosted by the Hong Kong Chamber of Shipping (HKCoS) in partnership with Liaoning Port Group and the Dalian Logistics Association, and supported by the Global Maritime Forum. The events brought together representatives from government, ports, shipowners, energy suppliers, technology providers and academia to advance cooperation on clean energy transition and maritime decarbonisation in Dalian, Northeast China and beyond.
During the conferences, BV shared insights on clean energy transition policies and demand in Europe, examining how regulatory developments, fuel availability and investment trends can inform Asia’s strategy for building resilient and scalable decarbonisation frameworks. It also contributed to the panel ‘Green Methanol Industrial Chain Construction and Application Development in Liaoning Province’, which explored opportunities for developing a regional methanol fuel ecosystem.
Hing Chao, Co-founder and Chairman, HKoS, said: “Northeast China has abundant resources and geographical advantages, and is emerging as a clean fuel production, trade, and bunkering hub. With the delay in adopting the IMO global net zero framework, regional and cross-sector collaboration is more critical than ever. One notable example is the establishment of a new green methanol full value chain, after the inaugural green methanol bunkering operation in Northeast China, at Dalian in July 2025. The Chamber is committed to forge partnerships, particularly in Northeast Asia, to turn this net-zero ambition into action and to build a sustainable future for global shipping.”
Matthieu de Tugny, BV EVP Industrials and Commodities, added: “The path to zero-carbon shipping will be built on integration — between technology, operations and regulation, and across the entire maritime value chain. Bureau Veritas is delighted to support the Dalian Shipping Conference, facilitating constructive dialogue on practical, safe and scalable solutions. Our continued engagement in such initiatives reflects our commitment to helping the maritime community achieve its decarbonisation goals through collaboration, technical expertise and innovation.”
