CORVUS LAUNCHES HIGH-DENSITY MARINE BATTERY SYSTEM

Dec 5, 2025 | Marine environment & clean shipping news

Marine energy storage solutions supplier Corvus Energy has introduced the latest addition to its NxtGen family of batteries, known as Blue Whale NxtGen.

Designed for vessel applications where high energy content and density are critical, Blue Whale NxtGen is said to deliver unmatched lifecycle cost, safety, and performance while maintaining modularity, scalability and unique level of digital services.

Blue Whale NxtGen is designed to reduce emissions, optimise operations, and prepare for the regulatory and environmental demands of tomorrow. At the core is the full integration of Corvus’ NxtGen architecture, which combines modularised design, cost efficiency and advanced BMS and analytics. In addition, cobalt free LFP cells with high performance and prolonged lifetime (up to 15 years) enable shipowners to lower capital expenditures and meet ESG targets. The BW NxtGen ESS will have a 1C charge/discharge rate which makes the product suitable for both energy and more power demanding operational modes.

Fredrik Witte, CEO Corvus Energy, said: “Blue Whale NxtGen is more than a new product launch — it represents a strategic step forward for Corvus Energy and the maritime industry. Without compromising on Corvus´ strong focus on quality, safety, security and sustainability, we are introducing contract manufacturing to optimise cost, stronger focus in China, more robust diversified global sourcing and the ability to swap battery cells without changing the product design. This platform strengthens our position as the trusted partner for green maritime solutions and ensures our customers’ investments remain relevant as the industry continues to evolve.”

Ole Jacob Irgens Head of Sales EMEA and Asia, Corvus Energy, added: “Our customers are asking for solutions that balance sustainability with strong business value. Blue Whale NxtGen delivers exactly that — higher energy density, longer lifecycle, and simplified installation, all backed by stronger global presence with expertise closer to our customers.  For shipyards this means more cost optimised supply chain, installation and technical support. For shipowners this helps us reduce life cycle costs, meet ESG commitments, and stay ahead of regulatory changes without compromising performance. It’s a platform designed not only for today’s challenges but for the opportunities of tomorrow.”

Blue Whale NxtGen will have Corvus’ in-house designed fourth-generation battery management system (BMS), data ownership, and industry-leading cybersecurity standards that further strengthen operational trust. The first projects will be delivered in Q4 2026.
