The CMA CGM Group has taken delivery of the ‘CMA CGM Monte Cristo’, the first in a new series of six methanol-fuelled container ships.
This represents the 400th owned vessel in the 650-vessel plus fleet and reflects the group’s long-term investment strategy, built on asset ownership and the integration of advanced technologies to enhance the environmental and operational performance of its fleet. The CMA CGM Monte Cristo has a maximum capacity of 16,204 TEU, including around 1,000 reefer plugs, and measures 366m in length and 51m in beam. The vessel will sail under the Maltese flag, with a crew of 23.
CMA CGM Monte Cristo becomes the 11th methanol container ship in the CMA CGM fleet, out of a total of 24 such vessels on order. Committed to achieving net zero carbon by 2050, the CMA CGM Group is deploying what it considers the best available solutions to reduce the environmental footprint of its maritime transport and logistics. The group is preparing to operate, by 2031, around 200 dual-fuel LNG and methanol container ships, that can be powered with low-carbon energy.
Built at DSIC Tianjin Shipyard, the CMA CGM Monte Cristo will enter commercial service in Ningbo, on the BEX2 – Phoenician Express service, connecting North Asia with the Levant and the Adriatic Sea.
