A naming ceremony has taken place at the Sakaide Works of Kawasaki Heavy Industries for a newly built very large gas carrier (VLGC), the eighth dual-fuel LPG carrier using LPG as fuel ordered by NYK.
Upon completion, the ship, named Lyla Pathfinder, will be chartered by UAE-based LPG trader BGN INT FZCO (BGN).
The vessel is designed not only to transport LPG but also to accommodate ammonia, a next-generation clean energy source that emits no CO₂ during combustion.
Lyla Pathfinder is equipped with a dual-fuel engine capable of operating on both heavy fuel oil and LPG. A shaft generator is fitted to the main engine which significantly reduces the need for diesel fuel typically consumed by generators — enabling near-complete operation on LPG alone. When LPG is used as fuel, SOx emissions are reduced by more than 95%, and GHG emissions are cut by over 20% compared to conventional HFO. The vessel is 229.9m length overall, 37.2m wide, with a tank capacity of 86,934.898m3.
