China has launched its first hydrogen-fuelled vessel, ‘Yun Tao No 1’, a 70m inland container/bulk cargo ship of 2000t capacity, said to represent a breakthrough in independent development of large inland hydrogen-powered vessels.
The ship was built by Guangdong Yuntao Hydrogen Energy Technology working with China State Shipbuilding Corporation, and classed by China Classification Society. It can carry around 140 TEU of containers or bulk cargo. The hydrogen fuel cell system employs three units of 260kW plus lithium batteries.
