Air lubrication company Silverstream has surpassed 160 vessel installations of its technology, marking a significant milestone in the adoption of energy efficiency technologies (EETs) across the global maritime industry.
This achievement follows the delivery of Grimaldi Group’s latest Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC), the Grande Oriente in June 2026, followed by the delivery of Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s PCTC Arctic Tern in July 2026, bringing the total number of vessels operating with the Silverstream system up to 164 globally.
This growth in the number of installations is thought to reflect the shipping industry’s commitment to air lubrication, as an independently verified technology capable of delivering immediate fuel and emissions reductions. Since its first commercial deployment, the Silverstream system has been adopted across a range of vessel segments, including cruise ships, container vessels, LNG carriers, ro-ro/ropax vessels and PCTCs, demonstrating the scalability and versatility of air lubrication technology across the global fleet.

As part of a long-term partnership, Silverstream and Grimaldi Group have worked together to deploy air lubrication technology across multiple vessel programmes, supporting Grimaldi’s ambition to build one of the most efficient and sustainable fleets. The Grande Oriente is part of a generation of PCTCs equipped with the Silverstream system and represents the latest chapter in that collaboration.
