BV AiP FOR DELTAMARIN’S LOW-EMISSION MR1 TANKER DESIGN

Deltamarin’s newly developed 40,000 dwt MR1 product oil tanker design has obtained an Approval in Principle (AIP) certificate from Bureau Veritas (BV).

The AIP confirms the design’s compliance with applicable requirements and highlights the technical advancement of the innovative vessel, supporting its further development towards market application. Following the development and delivery of its optimised 50,000 dwt MR2 tanker, the newly approved 40,000 dwt MR1 product oil tanker is considered to offer another modern, energy-efficient and environmentally friendly design jointly developed by Deltamarin and China Merchant Shipbuilding Industry Group Yangzhou Dingheng Shipyard. The new vessel further expands the companies’ product portfolio of medium- and small-sized product oil tankers.

Tailored to niche demands in the current shipping market, the design is specially adapted to operating scenarios featuring port draught restrictions, short-haul voyages and high-frequency turnover. It addresses a gap in this market segment, offering shipowners and operators a more diverse and flexible design solution that can be adapted to different operational requirements.

Leveraging proven vessel development experience and refined design optimisation, the new MR1 tanker delivers upgrades across four key areas: energy efficiency, cargo-carrying capacity, environmental compliance and safety. Fully complying with international maritime environmental regulations, the vessel features optimised hull lines and powertrain matching designed to substantially reduce sailing energy consumption and carbon emissions. The design is said to strike an effective balance between energy efficiency, transport capacity and structural safety, taking both cargo volume and structural integrity into consideration.

The design is thought to offer strong scenario adaptability and customisation potential. Personalised adjustments can be made according to customers’ routing conditions, cargo requirements and operational modes to accommodate diverse operating profiles. This enables shipowners and operators to optimise the vessel for their specific needs, helping to contain operating costs and improve overall profitability. The 40,000 dwt MR1 tanker is claimed to offer a new-generation, high-efficiency and cost-effective solution for short-haul, high-frequency product oil transportation.
