Mitsui E&S has held a commemorative ceremony in Okayama, marking the 100th anniversary of its B&W engine license agreement with Everllence.
The technical partnership between Mitsui E&S and Everllence has continued for 100 years since the signing of the license agreement in 1926. Under this partnership, Mitsui E&S has contributed to the development of the maritime industry in Japan and overseas through the manufacture and supply of large marine two-stroke engines. To date, Mitsui E&S has manufactured more than 7,500 B&W engines and reached cumulative production of 120m horsepower in November 2024.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from Everllence as well as Japanese Government and other stakeholders in the country’s maritime industry. Everllence and Mitsui E&S reflected on their 100-year journey supporting global maritime transportation, not merely as licensor and licensee, but as partners that have shared technology and experience. The two companies also expressed gratitude to all who have supported this history and renewed their determination to continue taking on new challenges together over the next 100 years.
According to Mitsui E&S, the global shipping industry is undergoing a major transformation driven by decarbonisation and the transition to next-generation fuels. In Japan, there is also a need to expand shipbuilding capacity and ensure a stable supply of marine equipment. Mitsui E&S aims to further deepen its collaboration with Everllence, working to develop and provide engines compatible with next-generation fuels and related technologies while further strengthening its production and supply capabilities.
Mitsui E&S will leverage its understanding of customer needs and the experience accumulated at its manufacturing sites to become actively involved from the product development and design stages. Together with Everllence, Mitsui E&S aims to provide more practical and competitive products and services. Building on the technology and trust shared by both companies, Mitsui E&S will continue to contribute to the sustainable development of the maritime industry.
