Aegean Shipping’s newbuild 114,000 dwt LR2 product oil/crude oil tanker ‘Caniver’, classed by Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore (BV), was recently delivered in September by Yangzhou Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry.

Ordered by Greek shipowner Aegean Shipping and chartered upon delivery to Vitol International Shipping, Caniver will serve the global oil products transportation market in unrestricted navigation areas. The vessel is considered a further achievement in the partners’ shared commitment to delivering quality and efficient tanker solutions.

The Caniver is based on a BV-approved LR2 tanker design developed through BV’s experience in tanker classification, regulatory expertise and design optimisation. Featuring an efficient hull form, an optimised cargo arrangement and advanced environmental solutions, the design is said to provide shipowners with a proven platform that combines operational efficiency with regulatory readiness.

The vessel has been awarded the Cleanship and Green Passport class notations, reflecting compliance with BV’s requirements for pollution prevention, emissions management and waste handling. The tanker has been designed to exceed applicable Marpol requirements and support the shipping industry’s transition toward more sustainable operations.

Christons Kechris, CEO Aegean Shipping, said: “The delivery of the Caniver marks a significant milestone in the development of the Aegean Shipping fleet. We would like to thank Yangzhou Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry for their consistently superb shipbuilding craftsmanship, as well as the BV team for their professional support during the drawing review and inspection phases. We will continue to build vessels that incorporate innovative technologies and ecosystems, minimizing our environmental impact whilst enhancing the safety of cargo transport worldwide.”

Chaoyan Gong, Deputy Secretary, Party Committee of Yangzhou Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry, added: “We are honoured to once again build a high-quality tanker for Aegean Shipping. The Caniver embodies our many years of technical expertise, and the BV team worked closely with us throughout the construction process, promptly resolving technical challenges and providing strong support for the smooth progress of the project. We value our long-term partnership with BV and look forward to working together on further projects in the future.”

Jeffrey Guo, BV SVP Asia Pacific, concluded: “BV is delighted to provide classification services for the Caniver. We have witnessed the continuous evolution of green ship technology by Aegean Shipping and Yangzhou Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry. The shipping industry is undergoing a profound transformation, and as with any technological transition, building trust in new technologies is crucial. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with both parties to jointly promote the application and development of innovative ship technology.”
