SOYA GROUP ESTABLISHES NEW MARITIME ENERGY TRANSITION SUBSIDIARY

The Swedish Soya Group, which includes Wallenius Lines and Wallenius Marine, is launching Flow Maritime, a new marine energy transition company established to help shipowners realise the commercial, regulatory and environmental value of moving to alternative fuels.

Flow Maritime has been established to support the wider maritime sector in accelerating its decarbonisation journey, serving as a catalyst for faster decarbonisation across the global maritime industry. The transition to lower-carbon shipping is considered to be creating a rapidly evolving commercial landscape.

Fuel supply, certification, regulatory compliance and environmental markets are increasingly interconnected, yet often managed separately. Flow Maritime was established to bridge that gap. By combining alternative fuel portfolio management, certified chain of custody, FuelEU pooling and environmental attributes in an integrated commercial model, the company intends to help customers unlock more of the value created through lower-carbon operations.

Daniel Gent, MD Flow Maritime, said: “Shipping companies are under growing pressure to reduce emissions, but the business case for doing so is often assessed too narrowly. The price of the fuel is only one part of the equation. When compliance value, emissions reductions and environmental attributes are considered together, the economics can look very different.”

Although Flow Maritime is a new company, it is built on an established foundation. As part of Soya Group, the company benefits from an owner with deep roots in shipping, a long-term perspective and experience of developing businesses and innovations within the maritime sector.

Gent added: “The energy transition will require long-term relationships built on trust. Shipowners need partners that combine expertise with transparency, reliability and a genuine commitment to the future of the industry. Being part of Soya Group gives us that foundation from day one.”

Transparency and traceability will be central to Flow Maritime’s approach. Through robust certification processes, documented chain-of-custody management and clear governance, the company aims to provide customers with confidence that the environmental and commercial value they depend on is credible, verifiable and responsible.

Gent concluded: “Our ambition is to become a trusted long-term partner to shipowners navigating the energy transition. By connecting fuel supply, regulatory expertise and environmental value, we want to help accelerate the adoption of alternative fuels across the maritime sector.”
