METHANOL ALLIANCE AND GREEN MARINE COOPERATE IN METHANOL SAFETY

Oct 26, 2026 | Marine fuel & lubricant news

Green Marine has signed a collaboration agreement with MI – The Global Methanol Alliance (formerly known as the Methanol Institute) – to support the safe adoption of methanol in shipping.

With more than 150 methanol-capable vessels in operation and over 290 on order, the focus is shifting from building ships to operating them safely: crew training, fuel handling, bunkering and emergency readiness.

The collaboration starts in three areas:

  • Training: MI will act as knowledge partner to Green Marine’s practical training programme, adding industry expertise and member insights.
  • Joint papers: the two organisations will co-author papers combining MI’s policy work with Green Marine’s operational experience.
  • Technical guidance: technical bulletins based on real-world operations for shipowners, ports and fuel suppliers.

Fredrik Stubner, Founder and Group CEO, Green Marine, said: “Ships are one part of the picture. The people operating them safely is the other. Green Marine was created to bridge that gap, from engineering support before delivery to training and operational guidance once a vessel is in service.”
