The Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping (MMMCZCS) has welcomed Force Technology as a Strategic Partner and Silverstream as a Mission Ambassador.
The partnership with Force Technology will strengthen the MMMCZCS’s ability to provide clarity on the performance, safety, and operational implications of maritime technologies and vessel concepts, helping inform industry decision-making and the regulatory frameworks needed to enable their adoption at scale. Force Technology brings a combination of engineering, advanced testing and simulation, and human-factors expertise, enabling technologies and vessel concepts to be assessed not only for their technical performance, but also for how they interact with the people who operate them. A particular focus of the collaboration will be the intersection between technology, vessel design, and human factors. As shipping continues to adopt energy efficiency technologies and transitions to use new alt. fuels, there is an increased complexity with onboard solutions’ architecture. For successful decarbonisation, shipping will not only depend on viable technologies but also on vessels that can operate those technologies safely, reliably and effectively.
MMMCZCS CEO Bo Cerup-Simonsen said: “We are very pleased to welcome Force Technology as a Strategic Partner. The transition to zero-emission shipping is introducing new technologies, fuels, and increasingly complex systems on board vessels. Understanding their technical performance is essential, but it is equally important to understand how they affect the people who operate them. Force Technology brings a distinctive combination of engineering, advanced testing, simulation, and human-factors expertise that will strengthen our ability to build the evidence, guidance, and regulatory understanding needed for new technologies to be adopted safely and effectively at scale.”
Tommy Bysted, CEO Force Technology, added: “We are proud to contribute with the competence and impartiality needed to turn new ideas into robust, scalable solutions. Through advanced simulation, testing and validation — combined with data and practical insight from real-world maritime challenges — we mitigate risks, strengthen confidence in new technologies and support their safe and effective implementation close to the realities of the industry.”
As a Mission Ambassador, air lubrication developer Silverstream will contribute with engineering and operational expertise to MMMCZCS’s work on energy efficiency technologies. The ambition is to help the industry overcome the technical and commercial barriers to wider adoption, and to help build an evidence-based picture of the role energy efficiency can play in decarbonising shipping.
Cerup-Simonsen said: “Reaching zero emissions in shipping will require innovative thinking and a mix of technologies and reducing the energy ships need in the first place makes every pathway to zero more achievable. We are pleased to welcome Silverstream as a Mission Ambassador and look forward to drawing on their operational experience from the global fleet.”
Noah Silberschmidt, CEO and Founder, Silverstream, added: “Shipping’s path to net zero needs ships that use far less energy, whatever fuel they burn. As a Mission Ambassador, we look forward to sharing what we have learned from more than 160 vessel installations in service, representing a total of 19 million dwt across the world fleet, working towards a future where air lubrication and other proven energy efficiency technologies are standard in every new ship.”
