ACQUISITION TAKES DANISH GROUP INTO SHORE POWER

Apr 21, 2026 | Maritime business news

KK Group of Denmark has announced the acquisition of PowerCon, another Danish company with strong maritime roots, specialising in renewable power conversion technology for the maritime, wind and battery energy storage industries.

The acquisition is expected to create growth opportunities for KK Group by unlocking new markets. PowerCon’s shore power technology allows ships to replace polluting marine fuel with shore power from renewables while in port, supporting decarbonisation of the global maritime industry through electrification.

Mauricio Quintana, CEO KK Group, said: “PowerCon’s unique shore power technology coupled with its clear mission and skilled team is perfectly aligned with KK Group’s purpose, powering change towards a more sustainable tomorrow. PowerCon has over many years proven to be a highly successful and value-driven partner and through this acquisition, we will leverage PowerCon’s skills and technologies to unlock new growth opportunities and support the electrification of the global maritime industry for the benefit of customers, society, and the environment.”

Kim Brøndum Larsen, CEO and co-founder, PowerCon, added: “Joining KK Group is a natural next step for PowerCon. We share the same roots in wind and the same belief in what power conversion technology can do for the energy transition. With KK Group’s scale and resources behind us, we can bring our shore power solutions to more ports and customers, supported by a stable ownership platform that supports continued development, technological advancement, and growth.”

PowerCon has its roots in the wind industry, where it developed modularised converter solutions and testing capabilities. KK Group and PowerCon have an aligned strategic vision based on a long-standing relationship built on over 15 years of collaboration in wind, creating a strong cultural and values-based foundation for the partnership. In addition to diversifying into shore power, PowerCon has expanded into the growing Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) industry.
