CAVOTEC LAUNCHES SHORE POWER SYSTEM FOR CONTAINER TERMINALS

Cavotec has announced the launch of PowerAlign, a new modular, mobile shore power solution designed specifically for container terminals.

PowerAlign is engineered to deliver safe, efficient, and reliable shore power connections while maintaining the operational flexibility container ports require. The system offers up to 140m of coverage from a single unit, with the option to extend reach by adding additional modules.

David Pagels, CEO Cavotec, said: “PowerAlign is the result of our deep collaboration with port operators, shipowners, and terminal equipment manufacturers. It brings a flexible, compact, and future-ready shore power solution to container ports that are under increasing pressure to reduce emissions without compromising performance.”

Unlike fixed installations that can limit crane and cargo handling operations, PowerAlign is designed to keep the quay clear thanks to its low-profile socket box and footprint of less than 3.5m². The system’s enclosed cable reel, mounted at the quay edge, ensures extended cable life and minimal maintenance, seen as an advantage in space-constrained and high-traffic terminals.

The system complies with IEC 80005-1 and supports up to 16 kA/s, with tracks installed on the quay face or deck. Protected reels extend cable life and reduce downtime. Whether implemented on new or existing berths, PowerAlign is designed to help container ports meet regulatory and environmental targets while maintaining productivity and vessel turnaround times.
