CAVOTEC SUPPORTS FIRST EUROPEAN PCTC SHORE POWER CONNECTION

Feb 3, 2026 | Marine environment & clean shipping news

Cavotec says it has contributed to a milestone in European port electrification, supporting the first-ever shore power connection of a car carrier vessel at a European port.

The achievement took place in Bremerhaven, Germany, where the 200m PCTC Lake Shirasagi was successfully connected to shore power. Cavotec was responsible for making the vessel shore power ready by supplying a PowerReceive shore power system, along with commissioning services. The system enables the safe and reliable connection between ship and shore, allowing onboard diesel generators to be shut down while alongside.

By enabling the use of shore power, the solution helps reduce CO₂, NOx and particulate emissions during port stays, contributing to improved air quality and reduced noise in port areas. This project marks the first shore power connection of a PCTC vessel in Europe, highlighting the growing momentum behind electrification solutions for ro-ro and automotive shipping.
