French container shipping group CMA CGM says that it has become the first major shipping company to be awarded the Green Marine Europe label, which the company says underlines its commitment towards the environment, based on eight distinct performance indicators.
The certification provides a detailed framework for shipping companies to measure and reduce their environmental footprint. Green Marine Europe is an opportunity to bring together stakeholders from France, Europe and the Mediterranean.
CMA CGM says it equips its vessels with an innovative ballast water treatment system, based on UV rays, without chemical additives. In this respect, the company highlights the commitment that the Group made at the One Ocean Summit in February 2022 to end the transport of plastic waste onboard any of its ships – effective as from 1 June 2022, immediately putting CMA CGM at Level 3 for the waste management performance indicator.
CMA CGM joined the Green Marine programme in 2021, in order to measure the carbon impact of its activities and move towards common solutions in a collaborative approach.
