CMA CGM PLEASED WITH EUROPEAN DECARBONISATION PLAN

Nov 11, 2025 | Marine environment & clean shipping news

CMA CGM has welcomed the publication by the European Commission of the Sustainable Transport Investment Plan (STIP), which the company believes marks an important step towards accelerating the decarbonisation of maritime transport while preserving the competitiveness of the sector.

Notable parts of the STIP include:

  • The recognition of LNG as a transition energy, seen by CMA CGM as a key first step in reducing maritime transport emissions today;
  • The recognition of methane and biomethane as major sources of sustainable fuel supply for maritime transport;
  • The desire to reduce the cost gap between renewable and conventional fuels: CMA CGM considers this an essential condition for an affordable transition; and
  • The intention to explore a ‘reward’ mechanism in the EU ETS, similar to that awarded to the aviation sector, to support shipowners who adopt and invest in low-emission energy.

A global player in maritime, land, air, logistics, and media solutions, the CMA CGM Group says it is committed to achieving Net Zero Carbon by 2050 for all its activities. CMA CGM will continue to support collective efforts undertaken at the European level and globally, to progressively build a decarbonised and competitive maritime sector.
