GREEN MARINE BRINGS METHANOL BUNKERING TO SHANGHAI

Apr 5, 2024 | Marine fuel & lubricant news

Green Marine Group of Denmark is entering into a strategic collaboration with the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone Lingang special Area Administration.

The agreement marks the next phase of expansion for the Green Marine Group, culminating in the establishment of its inaugural office in the People’s Republic of China. To mark this occasion a signing ceremony was held in Shanghai between the Management Committee of Lingang Special Area and Green Marine.

Green Marine will pioneer the establishment of the first methanol bunkering training and certification center in the Lingang Special Area. This initiative will not only support Shanghai in conducting methanol bunkering operations safely and efficiently, but also accelerate the development of high-end maritime services, and positioning Shanghai as a global leader in cultivating a new era of green port and shipping services.

Green Marine will establish an on-line ‘Green Fuels Trading Platform’ within the Lingang Special Area. This platform will furnish methanol producers and downstream enterprises in the green fuels and shipping industries with effective tools to manage long-term methanol price fluctuations and facilitate physical transactions of methanol marine fuel. By enhancing the Lingang Special Area’s capability to allocate green fuel resources for commercial vessels in both international and domestic markets, this initiative is expected to play a pivotal role in developing a world-class green shipping fuel service ecosystem within the Shanghai region.

According to Gren Marine, the rapid advancement of the energy transition in shipping underscores the critical importance of methanol as a marine fuel. To navigate this evolving landscape successfully, and with Lingang set to be the leading methanol marine fuel bunkering hub in China, stakeholders must be equipped with comprehensive knowledge, the requisite tools, and dynamic market access. These essential resources empower industry players to operate efficiently and effectively within the burgeoning methanol marine fuel sector.

Morten Jacobsen, CEO Green Marine, said: “Our gold standard methanol bunkering training curriculum is the culmination of over a decade of practical experience with methanol powered vessels. Developed by certified trainers who are captains and chief engineers with direct hands-on experience from serving onboard methanol powered vessel and acting as methanol bunkering supervisors, our programme prioritises safety and efficiency. Our leadership in the global methanol marine fuel sector uniquely positions us to bridge the gap between methanol producers and buyers, and to facilitate a dynamic and efficient on-line tool for trading of methanol marine fuel. We eagerly anticipate leveraging our expertise in these domains to enrich the Lingang Shanghai shipping ecosystem.”
