The Engine and Machinery of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI-EMD) has successfully completed the type approval test (TAT) for its next-generation HiMSEN LNG dual-fuel engine, the H35CDF, at its Engine Techno Centre.
Representatives from seven major classification societies participated in the test, including KR (Korea), ABS (US), BV (France), DNV (Norway), NK (Japan), LR (UK), and RINA (Italy).
The H35CDF is based on the HiMSEN second-generation CLEAN engine platform, integrating technologies and operational experience of the H35DF LNG dual-fuel engine, one of the flagship models in the HiMSEN engine line-up. The engine incorporates advanced technologies, including variable valve timing (VVT), which enables precise control of the air supplied to the combustion chamber. As a result, it achieves both improved fuel efficiency and reduced methane slip compared with previous engine models.
HHI-EMD believes that LNG is an environmentally friendly marine fuel with the highest level of technological maturity and well-established infrastructure. In response to growing market demand for high-efficiency and high-output engines, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries developed the H35CDF, further strengthening its LNG dual-fuel engine portfolio.
By completing type approval for the H35CDF, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries says it has demonstrated the performance, reliability, and safety of its LNG dual-fuel engine technology. The company expects to further reinforce its position in the global marine engine market.
