Oct 13, 2026 | Maritime business news

The Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping (MMMCZCS) has welcomed Italian shipping company d’Amico Società di Navigazione as a strategic partner, strengthening collaboration on solutions that can accelerate the decarbonisation of the maritime industry.

The partnership brings a highly experienced owner-operator with deep experience across product tanker and dry bulk shipping. Through its participation, d’Amico Group will contribute operational insights and technical expertise to support the development, testing, and scaling of decarbonisation solutions that are practical, commercially viable, and aligned with the realities of global shipping.

Founded in 1952, d’Amico Società di Navigazione is a family-owned shipping group with operations spanning product tankers, dry cargo, ship management, and maritime services. The company operates through offices across major maritime and financial centres and is said to have built a reputation for combining long-term business stewardship with a strong focus on operational excellence and sustainability.

A key area of collaboration will be advancing practical pathways for fleet decarbonisation. d’Amico Group brings experience from fleet renewal initiatives, operational efficiency improvements, and projects involving the use of biofuel solutions. Combined with MMMCZCS’s research, modelling, and ecosystem-building capabilities, the partnership will contribute to the development and assessment of scalable solutions designed to support the maritime sector’s efforts to reduce GHG emissions.

MMMCZCS CEO Bo Cerup-Simonsen said: “We are very pleased to welcome d’Amico Group as a strategic partner. The maritime transition requires solutions that work not only in theory but also in day-to-day operations across the global fleet. d’Amico Group brings decades of operational experience across both product tanker and dry bulk shipping, combined with a strong commitment to improving efficiency and exploring practical decarbonisation measures. Their perspective as an owner-operator will strengthen our ability to develop and mature solutions that are grounded in operational realities and capable of scaling across the industry.”

Cesare D’Api, d’Amico Società di Navigazione Technical Director, added: “As an owner-operator in the global tramp shipping market, we operate at the forefront of one of the most demanding and dynamic segments of the maritime industry. This gives us a unique perspective on the challenges shipowners and operators face as they navigate the path towards decarbonisation. We firmly believe that the industry’s transition will only succeed if innovation is translated into practical, scalable and commercially viable solutions. Too often, the challenge is not identifying promising technologies but ensuring they can be implemented effectively across diverse fleets and operating profiles. Through our partnership with the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping, we will contribute the real-world experience gained from operating both tanker and dry bulk fleets, helping to bridge the gap between ambition and practical implementation. By combining operational realities with cutting-edge research, we can accelerate the development of pathways that deliver tangible support for the shipping industry’s transition towards a sustainable future.”
