J-ENG ADDRESSES DEMAND FOR REDUCING CO2 FROM IN-SERVICE VESSELS

Japan Engine Corporation (J-Eng) says that its after-sales service, intended to meet the operational and maintenance needs of vessels equipped with UE engines, has been steadily expanding, led by the need for increased fuel economy and reduced GHG emissions.

As a result of the growth of demand for reliable and safe operation through regular engine maintenance, J-Eng’s after-sales service business achieved high-sales records for the fourth consecutive year in fiscal year 2025, and further revenue growth is expected in fiscal year 2026. In light of rising fuel prices and strengthening environmental regulations, there has been a rapid increase in customer’s demand for improvement of fuel efficiency and reduction for GHG emissions from vessels in service.

Among J-Eng’s solutions, Eco-Tune, a fuel efficiency optimisation service for electronically controlled engines offers improved fuel efficiency and reduced GHG emissions while minimising additional investment. It has received praise from the customers in the world, and orders are steadily increasing. Several major shipping companies are said to be considering adopting the service with the aim of expanding the application to their fleets.

J-Eng offers additional services with significant energy-saving effects, such as engine rating adjustments (output optimisation) tailored to the operating conditions of the vessel. As these services are applied more broadly to multiple identical vessels and fleets, it is expected to expand further increase in orders. J-Eng says it will continue to meet the demand for maintenance of vessels in service, while focusing on improving customer satisfaction by providing high-value-added after-sales services such as Eco-Tune, and further enhancing the presence of UE engines in the global market.
