Japanese shipping group ‘K’ Line has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with long-standing customer Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) of UAE to collaborate on research into decarbonisation.

‘K’ Line has been engaged in seaborne transportation of the raw material for EGA since 1979, for the predecessor company of EGA, Dubai Aluminium, and since 2019 has shipped around 5m t/yr of bauxite. Now EGA and ‘K’ Line have agreed to collaborate and share of research and ideas, leading to application of new marine technologies, alternative fuels and other fields such as wind assisted propulsion offering potential short-term future growth, so as to achieve the common target of a net-zero green house gas emission by 2050.

‘K’ Line’s medium-term management plan defines marine bulk transport, of cargoes such as bauxite and iron ore as one of the top priority areas for driving growth.
