Marine fuel supplier Peninsula has successfully completed the first LNG bunkering operation at the Port of Sagunto, marking an important step forward in the development of alternative marine fuels in the region.
The operation was carried out by Levante LNG, Peninsula’s LNG bunkering vessel. LNG was supplied to Thor Highway, a car carrier operated by Japanese shipping company ‘K’ Line. The operation is said to reflect the confidence that major international shipowners place in Peninsula’s LNG bunkering services across the Mediterranean.
This first LNG delivery in Sagunto further enhances the availability of alternative marine fuels within the Valencia port cluster, supporting a range of vessel segments operating in the region. Peninsula holds a licence to supply LNG as a marine fuel in the ports of Valencia, Sagunto and Gandía, strengthening its ability to meet growing demand for more sustainable energy solutions.
The successful completion of the operation was made possible through close collaboration between the various authorities and organisations involved, including the Port Authority of Valencia, the Maritime Authority, the Pilotage Service and Civil Protection teams. Their coordination and support were instrumental in ensuring the operation was delivered safely and in accordance with the highest operational standards.
With this first LNG bunkering operation in Sagunto, Peninsula says it reinforces its position as a supplier of LNG and bio-LNG in the Mediterranean, providing customers with reliable and flexible energy solutions while actively supporting the maritime industry’s decarbonisation journey.
