Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) has taken delivery of a newbuild LPG/ammonia carrier, ‘Aquamarine Progress II’. powered by LPG, from Namura Shipbuilding.

The vessel was ordered by MOL group company, Aramo Shipping (Singapore). The Aquamarine Progress II will sail under a time charter contract with GYXIS Corporation, a Japanese LPG importer and distributor.

The dual-fuel vessel can run on either LPG or HFO, and when LPG is used as fuel, CO2 emissions can be reduced by about 20%, and SOx and particulate matter by about 90% compared to heavy oil. In addition, the specifications allow for the transport of ammonia as well as LPG. Ammonia, which emits no CO2 during combustion, is expected to increase in demand in the future as a next-generation clean energy ship fuel.

The Aquamarine Progress II is 230m long, 36.6m breadth and has a cargo capacity of 87,119.3m3.
