Lloyd’s Register (LR) has issued a factual statement confirming that Daphne Technology’s PureMetrics continuous emissions monitoring system (CEMS) has been assessed and found suitable for the direct monitoring of selected GHG emissions from marine diesel engines onboard ships.
The assessment, based on reviewed documentation and onboard demonstration testing, includes an LR design appraisal of the PureMetrics system and its emissions calculation methodology. Unlike vessel-specific approvals, the appraisal applies to the system’s generic design, providing shipowners and operators with a technical basis to support future ship-specific applications and certification processes.
The appraisal confirmed that PureMetrics is designed to CO₂ and methane, alongside carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NO and NO₂) and sulphur dioxide (SO₂). The system is intended for use on marine diesel and dual-fuel engines.
LR carried out the assessment against relevant IMO, EU MRV and NOx technical code documents. The factual statement references IMO Resolution MEPC.416(84), the first dedicated IMO guidelines covering CEMS for marine diesel engines, adopted at IMO MEPC 84 in 2026. The appraisal is particularly relevant as emissions monitoring requirements continue to evolve. In addition to CO₂, the assessment covers methane measurement, which is now included within EU MRV reporting requirements and is fully incorporated into the EU ETS from 2026.
