A.P. Moller-Maersk (Maersk) has taken delivery of the first vessel in a new series consisting of six mid-size vessels, from the Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group yard in Jingjiang, China.

The vessel was named Tangier Mærsk. The six vessels in this new series have a capacity of 9000 TEU each and are equipped with a dual-fuel engine able to operate on methanol.

Anda Cristescu, Maersk Head of Chartering and Newbuilding, said: “We are pleased to take delivery of Tangier Mærsk, marking the first of six vessels in this new series. Together with the remaining vessels in the series, it will contribute to our ongoing fleet renewal and support our long‑term competitiveness.”

On its maiden voyage, Tangier Mærsk will call Shanghai and enter deployment on Maersk’s TP15 service, which connects East Asia with the US Gulf Coast via the Panama Canal.

Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group delivered the vessel three months ahead of schedule. Maersk expects to take delivery of four additional vessels in the series later in 2026, followed by the final delivery in early 2027.
