METHANE-FUEL BODY SPEAKS TO MEPC84 DELEGATES

Apr 28, 2026 | Marine fuel & lubricant news

Sea-LNG says it offers full support to IMO MEPC delegates as they gather in London for MEPC 84, a task that is seen as genuinely difficult — reconciling a wide range of stakeholder positions on complex techno-economic questions in a challenging geopolitical environment.

The LNG industry collective recognises the commitment and expertise delegates bring to that task.

Steve Esau, Sea-LNG COO, said: “Our position remains clear: there can only be one global decarbonisation framework for maritime. Regional fragmentation, with its risk of multiple and duplicated compliance costs, serves neither shipping nor the climate. We are calling for a framework that is goal-based and technology-neutral, that protects first movers, and that incentivises solutions which are practical, scalable and investable.”

While member state positions remain varied, Sea-LNG remains optimistic that delegates can find common ground. It will be closely monitoring proceedings and stands ready to support the process, including by contributing the evidence base on methane-based pathways.
