MMMCZCS GAINS CONSULTATIVE STATUS AT IMO

Jul 14, 2026 | Maritime business news

The IMO Council has granted consultative status to the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Centre for Zero Carbon Shipping (MMMCZCS) as an independent nongovernmental organisation.

Consultative status gives MMMCZCS a formal seat at the table in committees, sub-committees, and working groups and the opportunity to support discussions that will shape the rules of a zero-carbon transition, with its insight and from GHG reduction mechanisms and energy efficiency regulation to fuel certification, life cycle assessment, and seafarer safety in ammonia.

MMMCZCS believes it can bring rigorous, technology and fuel agnostic analysis to support the industry’s safe and pragmatic transition toward the goals of the 2023 IMO GHG Strategy. The recognition came with the backing of knowledge partner, the Royal Institution of Naval Architects, and to MMMCZCS’s 18 strategic partners, 21 knowledge partners, and five academic partners across six continents.

The Centre will use its new platform to deepen contributions across key IMO work outputs, including ammonia and alternative fuels safety, energy efficiency regulation reviews, GHG emissions reduction mechanisms, and technical cooperation and capacity building with Member States and Maritime Technology Cooperation Centres.
