Dutch ship designer Conoship International says that De Bock Maritiem’s CIP series recently reached completion, with the last sister of the series, ‘Olivijn’, christened in Werkendam.
Built by Holland Shipyards Group and designed by Conoship International, the series includes two identical sisters, Amadeus Saffier and Sardius, both based on the CIP3600 design. Olivijn now completes the series, though of the larger CIP3800 design.
De Bock Maritiem’s choice of the CIP series is said to reflect both a sustainability commitment and a practical one. The vessels’ shallow draught coaster design allows the mast to be lowered, enabling smooth passage under low bridges, creating an operational advantage.
Gilbert De Bock, De Bock Maritiem CEO, said: “We chose the Conoship CIP-Series designs for our new build vessels to take a big step in emission reduction. Its modular design opens possibilities towards zero emissions in the future. The specific and academic ship-designing knowledge available at Conoship, combined with input by end users like us, has led to a terrific product.”
Further elevating these green vessels, the Amadeus Saffier is equipped with wind propulsion technology that cuts fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions by around 10%, depending on the route.
All three vessels also carry the CIP series’ modular future fuel platform, built around an electric propulsion system designed to keep pace with evolving fuels and regulations. The energy source can transition from diesel to alternatives such as hydrogen fuel cells, methanol engines, or batteries, keeping the fleet competitive well into the future.
