NEW MEYER GROUP COMPANY BRINGS SUSTAINABILITY TO CRUISE SHIPS

May 3, 2022 | Maritime business news

The German Meyer shipbuilding group has established a new company, Meyer Re, to complement its core business of construction of new cruise ships.

Meyer Re aims to partner with Meyer’s cruise operation customers to maintain ships throughout their entire service life, modernise them with sustainable solutions, and to ensure optimised ship operation. This is claimed to result in significant advantages, e.g. one-stop support during the entire lifetime of the ship.

In the future, Meyer Group customers will be able to benefit from Meyer’s know-how and services in a continuous process making a significant contribution to sustainability by extending the lifetime of vessels.

Jan Meyer, MD Meyer Werft, said: “Meyer Re will generate additional work through further orders for the whole group of companies. This will make our new ships more sustainable as a product because we design them directly in a modular way so that they are easy to modernize. I am therefore convinced that Meyer Re will be an important building block for our future.”

The focus is not only on the refurbishment of internal furnishings, but to extend to entire revitalisation projects with companies from Meyer’s partner network. Meyer Re and Meyer Neptun Engineering will offer innovative engineering services such as energy management of ships, based on Meyer Group’s own software solutions. With the conversion of existing fleets to regenerative fuels or the retrofitting of fuel cells, Meyer RE is making a further comprehensive contribution to the decarbonization of cruising.

Meyer Re is divided into three areas:

  • Meyer Rethink – consulting and development of solutions for optimised and sustainable, energy-optimised, ship operation. New and innovative IT solutions with the use of AI are used for technological enhancement of existing ship systems.
  • Meyer Revalue – Preservation of value through modernisation of the interior and hotel areas (refurbishment) as well as maintenance and servicing of the ship’s equipment, conservation work on the ship as well as, under the necessary hygiene requirements, modernisation of the air conditioning technology in order to keep the operating costs and energy requirements of the ship as low as possible during operation.
  • Meyer Care -after delivery and beyond the warranty phase of the ships, Meyer will offer maintenance contracts as well as digital technical documentation, manuals/manuals and crew training for the optimal use of the complex technical systems on board new cruise ships.

“Meyer Re will utilise the technical expertise of the Meyer Group and will also directly start recruiting additional technical personnel for the new business segment,” said Alexander W Höfling, who has taken over the management of Meyer Re.
