Rolls-Royce Power Systems is introducing new technologies for efficient and more sustainable shipping, focusing on propulsion systems, sustainable fuels, intelligent automation and comprehensive service offerings – all with the aim of making fleets fit for the future.
New mtu Series 2000 variable-speed generator sets offer what is claimed to be industry-leading power density while enabling up to 15% lower fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions compared to constant speed gensets. The variable speed adapts optimally to different load profiles, suitable for electric and hybrid vessels that demand maximum efficiency, reliability and flexibility. Noise and vibration levels are also reduced, which significantly enhances on-board comfort. The product range comprises units from 8V to 16V cylinder variants, targeted at passenger ferries, SAR vessels, offshore support vessels and patrol craft. This range is complemented by a new SCR exhaust after-treatment solution, which meets the strictest IMO Tier III emission standards.
Rolls-Royce is also launching mtu NautIQ, bridge solutions and data analytics, enabling ship operators to manage their fleets more safely, efficiently and sustainably – whether for newbuilds or retrofits.
The service portfolio supports customers throughout the lifecycle of their vessels, with extended maintenance intervals, in-situ maintenance and comprehensive warranties to ensure maximum availability and cost-effectiveness.

The new products will be showcased at SMM 2026 in Hamburg in September.
