Østensjø Rederi believes that innovation and sustainability are at the company’s core, and with this in mind, it is now offering biofuel, derived 100% from renewable raw materials, as an option in every contract.
The company says that there is not just one magic fix to the fuel issue and with no time to wait for the perfect solution when it comes to the planet’s future, it is committed to trying various options and using what is available. As part of its move to cut CO2 emissions, Østensjø has bunkered 50,000 litres of HVO 100 biofuel onboard the tug Vivax.
Clients can now choose to purchase eco-friendly biofuel for any contract or single operation for any vessel in the fleet. To make this work in practice, the biofuel used on the Vivax will zero out and replace the equivalent amount of regular fuel on the chartered vessel in question. The client will receive a signed statement from Østensjø Rederi as evidence that the operation/cargo run/time frame has been carried out with a zero-emission footprint.
