SPANISH SHIPYARD CUTS ITS CARBON FOOTPRINT

Feb 21, 2022 | Shipbuilding & ship repair news

Gondan Shipbuilders says it is leading a pilot project to calculate its Carbon Footprint with the aim of improving the reduction, absorption and compensation of greenhouse gas emissions in the Asturias region of Spain.

The project, promoted by the Regional Ministry of Autonomous Administration, Environment and Climate Change, aims to open the way for companies, organisations and entities to promote their commitment to environmental protection and the fight against climate change.

Gondan says its electricity consumption is now 100% renewable, as well using only electric vehicles. Other measures in relation to energy consumption are in the implementation phase, which will further intensify actions to reduce carbon emissions.

One of these new measures to be implemented is the replacement of the current gases used in welding with Eco Origins gases, which bring with them a reduction of the carbon footprint of more than 95% compared to products without this certification.
