Norsepower of Finland is reported to have signed an agreement with CLdN, a Luxembourg-based short sea and bulk shipping, company, to instal two rotor sails on CLdN’s ro-ro ‘Delphine’.
The 35m high rotors will enable an estimated fuel and emission reduction of between 7% and 10% depending on the route. The 2018-built Delphine is of 27,687 dwt capacity and 234m in length, with nearly 8,000 lane metres.
Norsepower CEO Tuomas Riski said: “Norsepower’s Rotor Sail installation on the Delphine demonstrates how the use of clean technology can modernize and evolve the performance of fleets’ younger vessels to manage emissions and help to increase asset value. With fuel becoming increasingly expensive, making savings will also have a huge impact on commercial success. Working with CLdN and its ambitious team is an opportunity to demonstrate what our technology has to offer to continue strengthening the environmental and commercial performance of its fleet.”
According to CLdN, the Delphine installation will help determine whether the Rotor Sail technology could be fitted to more of the current CLdN fleet as well as newbuilds on order.
Norsepower has a reference list of six installations so far, covering ro-ro, tanker, ro-pax and VLOC vessels.
