Swiss marine power company WinGD has secured a five-year service agreement with NYK LNG Shipmanagement covering 10 X-DF dual-fuel main engines across five LNG carriers, strengthening the engine designer’s lifecycle support for an important shipping market.
With Japan as the main service location, the agreement will provide NYK LNG Shipmanagement. with direct access to WinGD engine expertise and service support close to its operations, complemented by WinGD’s global service network as the vessels trade internationally.
The agreement covers a fleet spanning several years of X-DF technology. Two LNG carriers, built in 2022 and 2024 at HHI and SHI respectively, are each powered by two WinGD 5X72DF engines. Three newer vessels, built in 2025 and 2026 by HHI, are each equipped with two 5X72DF-2.1 engines. Bringing all five vessels under Global Service by WinGD will provide NYK LNG Shipmanagement with consistent access to WinGD’s engine expertise across the fleet, supporting the performance, reliability and availability of the engines throughout the five-year agreement.
The service package includes spare parts for scheduled maintenance, technical labour, workshop services and advisory support, alongside remote monitoring, troubleshooting and engine optimisation through WinGD’s WiDE (Integrated Digital Expert) platform. Combining physical service with continuous digital insight enables WinGD to support maintenance planning and engine performance based on the operating condition and requirements of each vessel.
Wolfgang Dunker, MD Japan, WinGD, said: “Japanese shipowners have long been recognised for their focus on quality, reliability and the long-term performance of their vessels, making Japan an important market for WinGD and for the continued development of our global service offering. This agreement demonstrates how we can support those priorities across a fleet that includes different generations of our X-DF technology. With Japan as the main service location, we can provide NYK LNG Shipmanagement with dedicated support close to its operations, backed by WinGD’s engine expertise, digital capabilities and worldwide service network wherever the vessels trade.”
Nobuhiro Egawa, Director and GM Shipmanagement Group, NYK LNG Shipmanagement, added: “The safe, reliable and efficient operation of the vessels under our management is fundamental to the service we provide our customers. Entering into a five-year agreement with Global Service by WinGD for these five LNG carriers gives us access to the engine designer’s expertise and a service network capable of supporting our operations both in Japan and internationally. We look forward to working with WinGD to support the long-term performance and reliability of these vessels.”
