Yara Marine Technologies is accepting applications for the second round of its three-month tailored start-up accelerator programme, known as Yara Marine X, which offers selected companies an opportunity to develop and pilot innovative solutions while supported by direct access to Yara Marine’s industry experience, network distribution and knowledge scale.
CEO Thomas Koniordos said: “At Yara Marine, we are committed to enabling a clean transition to a decarbonised future. We are innovators at heart and always pursuing the improvements we need to make real sustainable change. I believe that to achieve this, we must encourage fresh approaches to longstanding problems and welcome new voices within our industry.”
The accelerator programme aims to make it easier for early phase start-ups with relevant clean technologies or work that addresses sustainability to access the resources they need to make their solutions widely available across the maritime industry. The Yara Marine X program is designed to facilitate partnership opportunities, possible investments, and a collaborative future with Yara Marine and its network.
Even with the proliferation of cutting-edge clean technologies being proposed and tested, the needs of the industry are likely to outweigh the timeline, financial capital, production capacity and/or market availability for recent technology start-ups.
“It is therefore crucial that those of us with experience in this process act as hubs to facilitate rapid development and entry to market,” said Per Bjärkby, CTO Yara Marine Technologies.
A Yara Marine X screening team will select 10 applicants from the start-ups that complete the application process. These start-ups will be invited to an event, currently scheduled for mid-March 2022, where they have the chance to present their business model to a panel of industry experts and receive feedback.
The winner(s) will receive the opportunity to participate a two-week, highly facilitated, on-site bootcamp in Oslo and/ or Gothenburg and a three-month tailored accelerator programme. Based on individual start-up needs, Yara Marine will provide competency guidance and mentorship to the winner(s) enrolled, as well as the chance to work hands-on alongside the Yara Marine X team.
“As a leading green technology provider, we have the knowledge, skillset, and infrastructure required to fast track sustainable and green technologies. Accelerating the timeline for the development and market entry process for viable green technologies can help address emissions and the effects of climate change. We must act now to find workable solutions for different users and markets if we intend to save our planet and leave it healthier for future generations,” said Koniordos.
